My history with Israel
1967 June 5th: Israel decided to launch a pre-emptive attack on Egypt, in the morning. The Six Day War starts. Almost 24 hours later, I come to the world.
1973 October: Yom Kippur War. The air-raid precautions siren of my schoolhouse gives alarm - test alarm. On my question about the «why» given to me answer with the current example of Israel and the Yom Kippur War. Many «whys» follows - everyone is answered. My first «discussion» about Israel.
1978 May 8th: The ABC-Show «The Stars Salute Israel at 30» was broadcast. The melody of the song, that sings Barbra Streisand at the end of the show, accompanies me since that day. Most in moment of thinking, I hum it quietly in front of myself - the «Hatikvah».
September 17th: Peace is possible also in the cold war. The Camp David Agreement is signed between Israel and Egypt.
1981 October 6th: The first «dove» is killed by the «falcons». The Egyptian President Sadat is murdered by an Arab extremist.
1983 April 29th: The miniseries «A Woman Called Golda» is broadcast. It concerns about the live of Golda Meir. Ingrid Bergman are Golda. The series comes into television in Europe in the following year. Two excellent women - each in her field.
1991 February: Gulfwar. 39 SCUD missile rockets fall on Israel. The Israelis go into the bunkers, we hold our breath: What, if Israel reacts? Israel doesn't react - this time.
1993 September 13th: The Declaration of Principles of Oslo between Israel and the PLO is signed. A great step - in the right direction. Many will have to follow.
1994 November 4th: The second «dove» flies away. Yitzhak Rabin is shot by a fanatical Jew into Tel Aviv, shortly after a peace demonstration.
2001 December 1st: Two Hamas-suicide-assassins ignite her explosive devices in a street café in the Jerusalem pedestrian precinct. 12 people die. 180 people are injured - under them Elad Segev. I read about Elad Segev in the Weltwoche a couple of days later. My Christmas-Topic is chosen.
2002 January 17th: «Promises» comes into the Swiss cinemas. He gives hope: «Childern don't know enemies...» and he takes away from us again: «Till the adults they show them.»
June: The time has come, to take time to myself for Israel.
