Tel Aviv-Jaffa :: In the Bible Joppe appears as a harbour of the Tarsis ships (book Jona). In the antiquity the harbour place was mostly in the hands of the Phoenicians whose wooden deliveries were transported for the construction of the First and Second Israelite Temple by Jaffa to Jerusalem.

While neighbouring Tel Aviv with Jewish population majority was slammed in the UN-Partition Plan for Palestine to the Jewish state, Jaffa was planned originally as an enclave of the Arabian state.

On the 14th May, 1948 Jaffa was taken by Israeli militia of the Hagana and the Irgun. Subsequently there fled the large part of the Arabian population which decreased by about 65'000 to just 5'000 residents.
