Once every generation, Switzerland treats itself to a National Exhibition - befor 2002 the last one was in 1964 at Lausanne.In mid-nineties the Commissioned by the Swiss Confederation, started preparations for the Expo in the year 2002. For the first time, the exhibition was being held not at a single place, but spread out over a whole region: the Land of the Three Lakes.

Expo.02 bundled up the multi-faceted interests and energies of our country more effectively than any other project. Architects, scenographers, and people from the worlds of culture, politics and economics work together to make the National Exhibition at the beginning of the new millennium a unique experience for its visitors: 4.8 million guests and over 10 million admissions were staying on the shores of the lakes of Biel, Murten and Neuchâtel.

Like its predecessors, the impending National Exhibition was a kind of snapshot of Switzerland and throw light on topical questions and problems. But Expo.02 offered not only food for thought, it was also a huge festival, an unforgettable happening - briefly: for 159 days, it was the cultural capital of Switzerland.

The Expo.02 has taken place from the 15th May to the 20th October, 2002 in a spectacular, but transient architecture - to in autumn, 2003 all constructions had disappeared again. What remains, is the Land of Three Lakes and unforgettable memoriesÂ…
